PRACTICUM PROGRAM
The Practicum Program is designed for doctoral students in their third year or beyond of training. Students must have at least one prior clinical practicum placement. The program provides supervised experience and training primarily in short-term individual counseling. Other supervised opportunities include: conducting intake assessments; providing outreach programs; and possibly co-leading a psychoeducational group. Practicum students receive two hours of individual supervision and attend a weekly training seminar, as well as participate in a multi-disciplinary staff case consultation group. Digital taping equipment is available, as practicum counselors are required to videotape each counseling session. This is a non-paid practicum and it requires an academic year commitment beginning in September and ending by the third week of June (after final exam week).
The practicum program is an integral part of the functioning of CAPS. The staff is a multiculturally and educationally diverse group of psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and MFCC's who are committed to the personal and professional development of our trainees.
The University of California, Davis, and CAPS are interested in candidates who are committed to the highest standards of scholarship and professional activities, and to the development of a campus climate that supports equality and diversity.
The Setting
With an enrollment of 30,000 ethnically diverse students, UC Davis is the third largest campus in the University of California system. It is located in the city of Davis (population around 64,000) and 15 miles west of the state capital, Sacramento. Napa Valley, San Francisco, and Lake Tahoe are all within two hours of the campus.
