The Postdoctoral Fellowship Program provides advanced training opportunities in the core service areas provided by CAPS including: Intake Assessment, Crisis Intervention, Brief Psychotherapy, Multicultural Counseling, Career Counseling, Consultation to Campus Units and Departments, Program Development and Outreach. The program stresses Generalist Training, with the goal of preparing the fellow for a staff position in a university counseling center.

The University of California, Davis, Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) announces the availability of one to five possible postdoctoral fellowships positions for 2009-2010. Our program is an APPIC member and provides advanced training opportunities and experience in the core service areas of the Center: Crisis Intervention, Brief Psychotherapy, Group Therapy, Multicultural Counseling, Consultation to Campus Units and Departments, and Program Development & Outreach. This postdoctoral program emphasizes Generalist Training, with the goal of preparing the fellow for a staff position in a major university counseling service.
We additionally offer specialized training and clinical experience in specific Emphasis Areas: The Eating Disorder Program, Sports Psychology Program, Multi-Cultural Immersion Program (MIP), the Stress and Wellness Clinic, and Generalist Training with a specialized Clinical Practice area (e.g., Group Therapy, Couples Therapy or Trauma work) – depending upon fellow’s interests, experience level and the current needs of the Center. In your cover letter, please indicate which of these Emphasis Areas you have an interest in and describe what experience you have in that area(s).
During orientation, the Coordinator of Postdoctoral Training and each fellow meet and review professional interests and training objectives to develop individualized training contracts specific for the Emphasis Area that the fellow will be working in.
Applicants are expected to have completed an academic program accredited by the American Psychological Association and to have completed ALL requirements for the doctoral degree by the start date of the fellowship. Only applicants from an APA approved internship will be considered. Applicants need to have had ample experience with diverse populations. It is desirable that an applicant already have strong experience in one of the aforementioned emphases or in another area that could augment the Center’s current offerings.
UC Davis has an ethnically and culturally diverse student body of over 31,000 (approx. 6500 grads., 25,000 undergrads). In addition to the numerous graduate programs the University has a Medical Center (Sacramento), Medical School, Law School, School of Veterinarian Medicine and a School of Management.
The fellowship is a 12 month full time program. It is expected that the post-doctoral fellow will accrue 2,000 hours of supervised professional experience by the completion of this year and be eligible for licensure in any state. The stipend is $36,210 with university benefits. The program begins August 1, 2009 and ends July 31, 2010. The closing date for applications is February 6, 2009.

- A cover letter of interest (no longer than two pages) which provides us information about your future professional goals, your goals for training at our site and information about who you are as a person and professional. Please indicate in your letter the specific Emphasis Area(s) that you are applying for and the experience that you have attained in the emphasis area(s). Additionally, indicate in your cover letter your expected graduation / dissertation defense date.

- Graduate school transcripts (can be unofficial). If you have not graduated at time of application, you must submit an official transcript indicating date graduated prior to beginning the fellowship.
- Three letters of recommendation—one must be from your internship training director and two from supervisors who have direct knowledge of your clinical or counseling work.
