TRAINING PROGRAM
UC Davis CAPS offers professional training opportunities for graduate students in counseling and clinical psychology.
All members of CAPS are committed to a training process that facilitates the development of professionally relevant knowledge and skills focused on working effectively with all individuals inclusive of demographics, beliefs, attitudes, and values. Members agree to engage in a mutually supportive process that examines the effects of one's beliefs, attitudes, and values on one's work with all clients.
Practicum Program
The Practicum Program is for doctoral level students seeking supervised experience and training primarily in short-term individual counseling. Other supervised opportunities include: conducting intake assessments; and providing outreach programs. This non-paid practicum requires an academic year commitment beginning in September and ending in June.
Intern Program (APA-Accredited)
The overarching objective of the Internship Training Program is to train ethical, competent psychologists who are capable of functioning independently and will contribute both to the welfare of society and to the profession. The primary educational model is to provide training in the area of applied practice that is grounded in the scientific principles of our profession. The training staff realizes that the most important learning occurs through providing service under the direct supervision and mentorship of a senior staff professional. Such “learning by doing” is guided, enriched and deepened through seminars, emphasis areas, consultations, and in-service staff development activities.
Postdoctoral Fellowship
The Postdoctoral Fellowship Program provides advanced training opportunities in the core service areas provided by CAPS including: Intake Assessment, Crisis Intervention, Brief Psychotherapy, Multicultural Counseling, Career Counseling, Consultation to Campus Units and Departments, Program Development and Outreach. The program stresses Generalist Training, with the goal of preparing the fellow for a staff position in a university counseling center.
