LETTER TO INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

March 25, 2003

Dear Student:

As an international student, I am writing to you to inform you of the services provided by CAPS. I imagine that as a result of the war and international tensions, these are very challenging times for you.

Regardless of your views about the war, you will have many feelings about the events that occur during the coming weeks. During these difficult times, it is normal to feel anxious or worried for your safety, or the well being of your family, friends, community or country. Your feelings may result in personal discomfort, frustration or other distressing emotions. At times you may find it difficult to cope with the intensity of your feelings.

CAPS has a number of services that you may find useful. CAPS has both peer counselors (students available to help students) and professional psychologists available to help you discuss your thoughts and feelings and explore how to cope more effectively with their intensity.

If you are having difficulty coping with your feelings and your personal reactions are interfering with your relationships, academics or general sense of well-being, please feel free to contact the Center to arrange an individual counseling appointment to discuss your concerns.

On CAPS website, www.caps.ucdavis.edu, you will find a description of CAPS services and some articles specific to reactions about the war. It is important to note that CAPS services for students are confidential and free.

During this challenging time, I hope you will make an extra effort to care for yourself as well as look out for your friends and fellow students.

Sincerely,
Emil Rodolfa, Ph.D.
Director
