WHAT IS APPLIED SPORT CONSULTING?
Applied Sport Psychology Consultants are interested in:
1) helping student-athletes achieve optimal mental health to improve performance and
2) understanding how participation in sport, exercise, and physical activity enhance personal development, health, and well-being throughout all areas of life.
Individual Counseling & Consultation for Student-Athletes
Personal/Academic/Career Counseling:
Personal/Academic/Career Counseling entails working on personal, relationship, family academic, and career concerns. These concerns may include but are not limited to anxiety, depression, being home sick, eating disorder/body image issues, roommate/relationship problems, and sexual assault. Personal growth and change takes place through recognition, acceptance, and expression of thoughts and emotions. Your counselor will assist you in clarifying your concerns, examining the solutions you have tried, and developing new coping strategies. The counseling process may include learning new problem-solving or coping skills, increasing self-understanding, exploring life patterns, and gaining a better sense of how you are influenced by your surroundings. Performance Enhancement Consultation:
Performance Enhancement Consultation entails (a) performance enhancement skills training (e.g., goal setting, attentional focus, self-talk, motivation, relaxation, leadership skills), (b) life skills training (e.g., time management, emotional control), (c) coach, student-athlete, and team relationship development (e.g., communication, problem resolution).
